Inspection System Offered for External or Internal Threads

Specialising in thread inspection systems for dimensional conformance verification, Johnson Gage has developed a new thread inspection system for the verification and in-process control of reverse-angle buttress threads commonly used in anti-splaying medical devices such as orthopedic implants. Available for either external or internal thread version, the new system is based on advances in grinding and manufacturing technologies. Similar in design to current products from the company used for medical applications such as bone screws and dental implants, the new system is suitable for both inspection and manufacturing environments. Common applications include design validation, dimensional inspection and conformance, initial manufacturing and tool verification, and in-process determination of capability degradation.

Aside from the thread contacting segments and setting ring used for verification and traceability, the system uses components that are adaptable for other thread inspection applications. Initial field studies reportedly exceeded expectations regarding accuracy and repeatability. Gage repeatability as measured by standard industry protocol was less than 5%.
