Electromechanical NC Joining System Supports Efficient Assembly Operations

A compact and high-precision system for a range of press-fitting and joining tasks with integral force displacement monitoring is available from Kistler. This series has now been enhanced with a new joining module with a 15 kN nominal joining force. The smaller size electromechanical NC joining module NCFH Type 2151B is now available with nominal joining forces of 10 and 15 kN and in various measuring range combinations from 1 to 15 kN. Size 2 covers joining forces of 30 and 60 kN and measuring range combinations of 15, 30 and 60 kN. The two new types differ from the established 10 kN version in that they are more robustly built while taking up the same compact space. With the piezoelectric force sensor, there is a choice of a second measuring range of 5 kN (Type 2151B15052001) or 2 kN (Type 2151B15022001). These NC joining modules are mechanically and electrically compatible with the existing sizes. With a height of 475 mm, they offer a 200 mm stroke, which allows them to reach even deep end points. The high velocity of up to 300 mm/s offers a quick return stroke and hence a short machine cycle. Standard availability of both tensile and compression forces leave considerable machine design freedom. The standard holding brake allows the use of particularly heavy vehicles and prevents the ram from dropping when the module is switched off. The force displacement monitoring unit DMF-P A300 NCF has a range of analysis windows for analyzing the force displacement curves of virtually any application. Moreover, it allows comprehensive documentation of curve developments and the associated target and actual values. The NC Compact Firmware Type 2159A, which is integrated into the servo controller, is perfect for simple force displacement evaluation and documentation of standard joining processes. With extremely low investment and mounting costs, it facilitates integration into the customer’s existing control environment. Both the NC Compact Firmware and the DMF-P A300 NCF contain functions such as force control and active deflection compensation, which eliminates the effect of bending of customer assemblies. The positioning accuracy is therefore no longer influenced by force. With its low-maintenance operation, space-saving design, manufacturing benefits and integral force displacement evaluation, this unit makes assembly processes with Kistlers’ electromechanical NC joining systems more efficient.
