Protocol Analyser Tests Bluetooth-Enabled Devices

January 22, 2009 – 11:33 am

A protocol analyser has been updated to facilitate testing of the wireless interface between devices such as a glucose monitor and a telephone modem as well as the interface between a device CPU and the Bluetooth chip inside the device. The system from Frontline Test Equipment (Charlottesville, VA, USA) allows device manufacturers to release Bluetooth-enabled products with confidence that they have been thoroughly tested and will perform as intended in the clinical environment.

The analysers incorporate real-time displays to accelerate the debugging and verification process. The effects of user actions—whether “positive path” or regressive—are observed in real time on the analyser’s screen. The test engineer will not have to rely on notes or memory to reconstruct what took place when attempting to fix any problems.

A supplier of PC-based protocol analysers for special-purpose data communication networks, the manufacturer has put more than 40,000 units in use worldwide. The company’s FTS4BT supports the new IEEE P11073-20601 draft Standard for Health Informatics, Personal Health Device communication application profile, and includes the Multi-Channel Adaptation Protocol.
